1) Now, I have been a porn store manager and my old drummer was into some kinky stuff, so I’m used to ‘different’ types of erotica. Not much shocks me, but “Dinosaur Erotica” even caught me by surprise. So, I must ask from the start, why dinosaurs?

The answer to this question starts back when I first decided to try my hand at erotica. My initial plan when I started writing was to just to ‘shifter’ erotic stories and perhaps a little tentacle erotica on the side. However, a friend and I were talking one day and we thought that it would be really funny if someone self-published a “word porn” story featuring a dragon. So I wrote a story “Doing the Dragon” and published it as a tribute to my friend’s joke. Of the first stories I did, it was the most popular.

After writing this type of erotica, which is referred to as “monster erotica” in the biz, for several months, I started to get really burned it. I was making more money doing this than I did at my old job (I actually quit work to write full-time), but every morning when I got up to write, I started to feel more and more drained.

Well one morning, instead of going to my computer to write, I decided to just go take a walk. As I was walking I thought “what would make this fun again?” As I was walking I, for some reason. thought about the film Jurassic Park. My warped mind pictured a hot blond getting banged my a massive T-Rex and I started laughing my butt off. I was about to dismiss the thought, but I remembered back to when I published Doing the Dragon. I remembered how fun that story was to write because it was unique. After several more images of a busty blond being taken by powerful dinos flashed through my mind, I resolved to write an erotic story featuring a dinosaur and a human girl. The idea, while it had been done a few times before, seemed unique and fun enough, to reignite my love for writing.

I planned to do a set of 5 stories that next week, and I made up my mind to make one of those stories a story featuring a velociraptor (a larger version than the real life raptors, which were only three feet tall). That story not only turned out to be really fun to write, and it rejuvenated my “writer’s spark.” That week I ended up writing 6 stories, which was a lot more than I normally had done up to that point. After that, the rest was history, so to speak.

2) It’s interesting what we find sexually arousing and attractive, I saw some weird stuff at the porn store but never dinosaurs. I keep thinking of movie that came out last year ‘The Tree of Life’ it was strange film I didn’t care for, but the film got praise from the high arts community. It had Brad Pitt and a random scene with dinosaurs, which leads me to my second question: who is sexier Brad Pitt or a T-Rex?

I didn’t care much for the film either. To me it seemed a little pretentious. However, I do appreciate what it tried to do, and have to respect the filmmakers for trying to undertake a project like that, in an industry where that type of movie isn’t always the most profitable.

But when it comes to Brad Pitt and the dinos…ouch, that is a tough one. Brad Pitt is a sexy man but, but he lacks the sleek finesse and the cool, confident dominance that the velociraptor had in that movie. There was one scene where a raptor decides not to eat a herbivore dinosaur, however he presses the creature down against the rocks, showing his dominance. After deciding not to eat the other dinosaur, the velociraptor coolly struts off, showing off how sleek and sexy he was.

However, I guess if it came down to it, I’d probably take Pitt, but it’s a close one. He has those eyes that make my stomach all quivery and with those powerful arms and tight body, he could be my T-Rex any night.

3) Do you care what others think of your work? How do you hope readers respond to your stories?

While it is true my main inspiration for writing this kind of fiction, at least initially, was for the money, I do enjoy what I do. If you are pretty much asking me why I write, I do it because mainly, it’s fun. I do it so that I can give life to all the crazy things in my mind. It doesn’t bother me if someone doesn’t like my work. Heck, let’s be frank, I write some pretty crazy stuff. I am not offended at all if someone doesn’t like my work. In fact, I completely understand.

As far as how I want someone to react. I just want someone to enjoy it. Whether that enjoyment includes getting a good laugh at a weird story, or a long, hot shower and many bath towels, I just want my readers to derive pleasure from the story. I’m not trying to be a rebel, I’m not trying to send a message, I’m just trying to “entertain.”

4) As a ‘dino-erotica’ writer, what are your goals in creating this new genre? Are you hoping to break down taboos of sex or is just for you to serve the muse, and share these stories?

My initial goal for doing this was to just reignite my passion for writing. However, now I keep writing dinosaur erotica because it’s fun and my readers seem to like it. I also have dinosaur story ideas all the time now (because I am secretly a sick and crazy girl), so that probably plays a big part.

5) I remember in reading ‘On Writing’ by Stephen King he talked about finding a story is like finding a dinosaur fossil, I guess you took that literally but it has done well for you. Though not a ‘dino-erotica’ fan, I am impressed that you and you’re writing partner have been so prolific. You have a ton of shorts out. What is your writing process like? Do you do a draft and revise? Do you outline? How do you pick what dinosaur that the protagonists, um, ‘does’ so to speak?

Thank you very much. Actually, I don’t nearly have as many stories out as I have written. I have several stories that my writing partner and I have done, which haven’t seen the light of day yet. But as far as a writing process goes, I actually do have one.

There is a fiction writer and publisher, who I will not name, who says that you should not outline short stories because it takes too long and it makes you writing slower. This is wrong, absolutely, positively, dead wrong. Outlining is the key ingredient to any successful writing strategy. Not only does it help you organize your thoughts and gives you a focus, but it also allows you to clear your mind so you can focus on writing and not have to constantly focus on everything else, if that makes sense.

The key is, with short fiction, you can’t outline too much. Christie and I both write outlines before we do a story. Most of them are usually three to five sentences long. A few are longer but not normally. After that, we just sit down and write the story until it’s done. It is nothing for us to stay working on a story for 10 to 12 hours.

But basically my process is, outline, sit my butt down and write, when I am done, go for a walk/jog, come back and edit, and then ship it off to my editor. There is a little more to it than that, but those are basically the nuts and bolts of it.

The biggest key to writing success is work ethic. Some of the greatest writers of all time were so great because, not only could they write well, but they also worked very hard. In case you were wondering, I most certainly DO NOT consider myself one of those amazing writers.

6) Word. Respect, I’m an outliner too. You heard it here young writers, even writing about dinosaurs boning chicks, you still have to have a good work ethic. Now, let’s go a little deeper and talk about some social issues: have you heard any responses from Evangelical Christians? Dinosaur-human sex I imagine would be considered to be a sin but you yet make a case for creationism and challenge the beliefs of evolution.

One of my family members actually knows what I do, and he told one of his friends, who is a Southern Baptist. In my family member’s own words the person he told had “severe heart palpitations.” I haven’t heard from any Evangelical Christians and I hope not to (thought it would be funny to see the looks on the faces of all those nice, little old church ladies I knew growing up in the deep south, if they found out what I do). If they found out what I wrote they would (understandably) tie me down and burn me at the stake. A fitting end for someone who writes such “hot” stories.

7) I am not a huge fan of short stories. I mostly read novels or novellas. Would you and your partner ever think about writing an epic dino-erotica novel? Maybe a series? Or a novella involving both omnivores and herbivores?

I have considered many times to write longer fiction. The reason that I haven’t is that my short fiction does pretty well, and that writing a novel is a huge risk and time investment. In the time it would take me to write a novel, I could write 10 to 15 short stories or more. My goal is to reach a certain short story count to give me enough of an income so I will have the time to invest in writing a novel (or at least novelette) length work.

I was actually thinking more along the lines of writing a novel involving a young woman and a dragon. However doing a dino epic would be awesome. Perhaps I could do a story of a young cave girl whose land is invaded by voracious dinosaurs. The cavemen try to defeat the invaders but they are killed by their enemy.

So, it is up to the young girl to “appease” these creatures’ voracious sexual appetites to wear them out, so the cave men can kill/chase the invaders away. Ah yes, that would be fine quality literature. I can just smell a Pulitzer…

8) Do you go to museums for inspiration? Are fossils a turn on? Or is the idea of making love to a dinosaur purely fantasy?

I have actually gone to a dinosaur museum for inspiration a couple of times, just to kind of get a perspective as to how big these things actually were. Now I do admit that the dinosaurs in my stories are not perfectly accurate (the biggest difference is that some of my dinosaurs have penises instead of the cloaca that real dinosaurs had), but going to a museum did give me many ideas.

Since I’m not a necrophile, fossils don’t really give me a lady “boner.” However, if one of those big, powerful beasts had some skin and was really alive, that might be a different story…

9) I just learned a new word ‘cloaca’ and I will find a way to use it. You’re full of all types of interesting stuff, I’m really curious to know what authors you’re influenced by? Also what is your favorite dinosaur? Mine is Denver The Last Dinosaur but he is a fictional character.

You probably won’t believe it, but my most favorite authors are classic science fiction and fantasy authors, and a few romance writers. Phillip K. Dick, Robert Heinlein, Poul Anderson, J.R.R. Tolkien, Michael Moorcock, Piers Anthony, and especially Isaac Asimov, to name a few of the sci-fi authors. For romance I’ll take Janet Daily, Nora Roberts, and Steele any day. I always admired writers who could break the mold and tell me stories that really make me think, laugh or cry.

Since I write so much I don’t get to read a lot nowadays. But currently my favorite writers include Nora Roberts, Michael Crichton, Stephen King, and R. A. Salvatore, who is a writer who had a massive influence on my style. Salvatore writes amazing action sequences, which inspired the way I handle my sex scenes. I wonder how Mr. Salvatore would react if I found out he, in a roundabout way, inspired hot, steamy, dinosaur sex.

10) What are you working on right now and what would you like readers to know about you and your partner that has not already been said?

Right now my writing partner and I are currently working on a mass of short stories that we wrote over the course of many weeks. We are currently editing a sundry of dragon, centaur, gryphon, shifter, and yes, some dinosaur stories, among others.

But aside from that, Christie and I are hoping to get away from monster erotica, at least for a little while, to pursue other writing interests. I have thought seriously about trying to break into the budding choose your own path story market, and Christie is leaning more toward writing urban fantasy. But that won’t happen for a little bit, as we have several stories we want to get out first.

But there is really nothing special to know about my writing partner and I. We are best friends, everyone thinks we are lovers but we totally aren’t (well, not when we are sober anyway), and we aren’t your typical girls as far as hobbies (GO FIGURE THAT!). I am a huge fan of outdoorsy stuff and Christie loves to play co ed football (it’s funny to watch a small girl smash up bigger guys). But other than that, we are normal girls, or as normal as girls who write dinosaur porn can be.

Thank You Alara and tell Christie hello from me and I wish you all the best.
