“Godzilla helped give me my moral compass.”

Garrett Cook

I had the lovely opportunity to spend a good hour shooting the shit with my old friend and Bizarro/Horror writer Garrett Cook. He is a man of many layers. He is an idealist with a dark side. Some of his stories make you want to kill yourself, and yet these stories are why he stays alive, despite the darkness within him and around him. I have known him for many years. I think of him as my writing mentor, because it was under his guidance that I learned to start writing Bizarro Fiction. He inspired me and guided me.

In this interview we explore his artistic influences and his evolution as a writer, as well as his thoughts on current events in politics, internet culture, on being called a Social Justice Warrior, and what it is like to live in one of the most dog-friendly cities in the United States.

Check out his surreal and disturbing Bizarro and Horror fiction on Amazon HERE

Enjoy!
