Ian Fleming’s iconic character James Bond has officially entered the public domain. As of January 1st, Bond and every other notable 007 character Fleming created is fair game worldwide except in the United States and parts of Europe.
A team of Canadian filmmakers are already planning to remake the franchise. Lee Demarbe and Ian Driscoll gave an interview to CBC’s “q” where they mentioned plans to enter production on a remake of For Your Eyes Only. Roger Moore played Bond in the 1981 original but the filmmaking duo plan to go with an unknown for their reworking of the film. Jessica Paré has been mentioned as a possible Judy.
Demarbe and Driscoll mentioned in the interview that they intend to use this film as a way to kickstart a new, alternative franchise — possibly with a black James Bond.
