The upcoming two volume play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is going to be the official next chapter in the long running Harry Potter franchise. It will serve as a continuation of Harry’s tale, but 19 years later. As of now the play is going to be performed in London through mid-2017. That begs the question, is J.K. Rowling content with there being such an inclusive sequel to the beloved franchise?
Since the beginning J.K. Rowling has said that [the stage] is the perfect medium for The Cursed Child, and that it will all make sense when it is finally performed. Clearly the eighth Harry Potter was designed as a play from the jump. But that doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t see an adaption of sorts hardbound and in book stores within the next couple of years.
The mere fact that Rowling felt compelled to continue the story–and also pen the screenplay to the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them–is a strong indicator that Rowling is not done with the Potterverse.
